How do you qualify for SSDI benefits?

The government establishes whether or not you can qualify for SSDI benefits by taking a look at your injuries, lifestyle and current employment prospects. To qualify for an SSDI case, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Your current monthly income must not exceed $1,130.
  • Your disability must prohibit you from working at your previous job.
  • Your injuries must also prohibit you from working at any other less strenuous job.
  • Your injuries must be severe and must be on the program’s list of debilitating injuries.

Which medical conditions qualify for SSDI/SSI?

Not all medical conditions are eligible for Social Security Disability payments. Only serious conditions that prohibit a person from properly performing a job of any kind allow someone to qualify for SSDI. These conditions include but are not limited to:

  • Respiratory diseases (including asthma)

  • Neurological disorders (including Parkinson’s disease)
  • Skin disorders (including dermatitis)
  • Digestive tract problems (including liver disease)
  • Kidney disease
  • Cancer

The Social Security Administration reviews your claim by examining your medical records, speaking to your healthcare providers and evaluating your current job activity in order to get a clear picture of your situation.
